Drumsticks Aloo Masala

One of the yummiest North Indian dish Drumsticks Aloo Masala.  This is drumstick vegetable not the chicken drumsticks.  These drumsticks are pods of the plant called Moringa oleifera.  It is native to the southern foothills of Himalayas.

Very popular in India, but since I moved to US, if I remember correctly this is the second or third time I found them fresh.   Last weekend I went to the Indian market and I was like let me grab a few things while I am here.  While shopping I came across these beauties and couldn’t resist.  Bought only a few thinking that I am only one who is going to enjoy.  I made this for the first time and it came out so yummy even my 7 year daughter tried it and goes, “Mummy this is yummy.”  I usually use drumsticks as one of the sambhar vegetable.

Ingredients:

  • 4 drumsticks, cleaned and cut
  • 1 big potato, cubed
  • 1 medium sized red onion, chopped

  • 1/2 tsp red chili powder or to taste
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala (used homemade)
  • 1/2 tsp amchoor

DSC_3173-1While the tomatoes are cooking, peel and cut the potatoes.  Add it to the onion and tomato masala along with salt, turmeric and garam masala.
