Achaari Aloo, potatoes in tangy, spicy pickling spices.

Ingredients
  • 6-8 medium sized potatoes
  • 1 large onion, cubed
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 2 whole dry red chilies
  • salt to taste
  • 1-2 green chilies, chopped
  • 1-2 tsp achaari masala (used homemade)
  • ¾ tsp garam masala
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • ¾ tsp red chili powder
  • ½ tsp paprika powder
  • 2 tbsp yogurt
Instructions
  1. Boil the potatoes, don't over boil so they become mushy. Drain and set them aside to cool down. Peel them and cut it into cubes.
  2. In a kadhai, add oil and heat it up. Add mustard seeds and whole red chilies and let it splutter. Then add cubes onions. Sauté for a couple of minutes until translucent.
  3. Then add the potatoes, green chilies along with all the spices and mix well. Cover it for a couple of minutes. Now add yogurt and mix it well. Cover it again. Let the flavors marry.
  4. These flavorful Achaari Aloo are ready in a jiffy to be served with a paratha, puri or chapati per your choice. I enjoyed it with masoor dal and chaawal.
