Healthy Bread Pakoda (Healthy Bread Fritter)

Bread pakoda is one of everyone favorite snack in my household.  We all were hungry as we didn’t have proper lunch, so decided to make something with tea.  Bread pakoda was going to be easy and healthy as I made it with brown bread and didn’t deep fry them.  Love these type of snack on a gloomy day when there is no sunshine outside.

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup gram flour (Besan)
  • 1/2 chopped onion
  • 1 chopped green chilli
  • chopped cilantro
  • salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp amchoor (dry mango powder)
  • water to make the batter
  • 4-5 pieces of bread
  • olive oil

Directions:

Cut the bread pieces into whatever desired shape you want.  I cut them in triangles and set aside.  In a mixing bowl, mix besan and water, stir it make sure there are no lumps.  The batter shouldn’t be too runny as it has to stick to the bread but not very thick either.  Now add the chopped onions, green chilli, cilantro, salt, amchoor and red chilli powder and mix it well.

In a frying pan, add 1-2 teaspoon of olive oil.  Now dip one slice at a time into the batter on both sides and place it in the pan on a medium heat. Turn every 2-3 minutes until crispy.

These are healthy as they are not deep fried and also we used brown bread instead.  Serve hot with mint or tamarind chutney along with a hot cup of tea.
