Ingredients

  • 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast 1 packet
  • 1.5 cup lukewarm milk
  • cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 3 tbsp butter melted and little more greasing and brushing the loaves
  • 2 eggs
  • 5-6 cups all purpose flour

Instructions

  • In a mixing bowl or your electric mixer bowl, dissolve yeast in 1/4 cup of warm milk. Add the remaining milk, sugar, salt, butter and the eggs. Add the 5 cups of flour and mix it with the paddle attachment if using the mixer until its smooth for a couple of mins. Change to the hook attachment and knead it on low speed, adding more flour if necessary. I added about 3 tbsp more. Knead until the dough is stiff which is approx 10 mins.
  • Grease a large bowl with butter and turn the dough into it. Using your hand you can flip it and cover the bowl with the clear plastic wrap and keep in a warm place until double in size. It will be about a couple of hours but I left mine for about 4 hours.
  • When the dough is ready, punch it down and knead for another 2-3 minutes. Grease the loaf pans and and shape it and place in the pans. Let it rest for another 45 minutes to an hour covered with the clear plastic wrap.
  • Pre heat the oven at 400F and bake it for 10 minutes. Lower the temperature to 350F and bake it for additional 20-30 minutes or until the loaves sound hollow when tapped and the tops are brown. Pull it out of the oven and let it cool down in the pan for 5-6 minutes. Take it out of the pan and place it on the cooling rack.
  • Let the loaves cool down completely and then you can cut them into slices. Enjoy it with your favorite jam or butter.
