Achaari Chicken

There are so many ways to make chicken. This chicken recipe is made with spices used in making pickles. ย It is a common North Indian dish which is enjoyed with naan, paratha, tandoori roti. ย This recipe is full of flavors as the spice blend is homemade too. Made this for the first time and were happy with the results.

Ingredients:ย 

  • 1.5 lbs chicken (i used drumsticks)
  • 1-2 onions (depending on the size)
  • 2 tsp ginger garlic paste
  • 2-3 tsp Achaari Masala (store bought or homemade)
  • salt to taste
  • 1 tsp turmeric
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  • 2-3 tsbps yogurt
  • 1/4 cup tomato puree
  • Chopped cilantro
  • green chillies to garnish
  • olive oil
  • 1-2 tsp of Mango pickle masala

Directions:

Cut, clean and wash the chicken. ย In a bowl, add yogurt, salt, turmeric to marinade the chicken. ย Leave it in the fridge for a couple of hours. ย In a kadhai, add the lengthwise sliced onions in the olive oil to fry until brown.

Add ginger garlic paste and sautee for a few minutes. ย Also add the achaari masala, salt, turmeric and roast it. ย Now add the marinated chicken and mix well.

After the chicken is partially cooked, add tomato puree and cook covered so that the chicken is cooked all the way.

Uncover the kadhai, let it roast for a good few minutes. ย Also check your spices at this time, so that you can add it if anything is needed. ย also add water for the gravy. ย Let it cook for a couple of more minutes and turn it off when you get the desired amount of gravy. ย Add a couple of teaspoons of mango pickle masala and mix it. ย Garnish it with cilantro and slit green chillies. ย Serve hot with chapati, paratha, naan, or tandoori roti.
