Apple Roses

Any plans for Valentine’s Day yet?  Hope you haven’t forgotten that Valentine’s Day is on Tuesday.  Just kidding!!! Are you doing anything special this year?  I know it is a week day and its no fun when you have to work the next day.  But you can still enjoy the evening with your loved ones in the comfort of your home.    I haven’t decided what’s for dinner but dessert is all sorted out…hahaha.  Baked Apple Roses is what I am making this Valentine’s.

Apple Roses

An easy semi home dessert with 5 ingredients can be made and served hot while you enjoy the dinner with your loved one.  I have had this a while back at my sis in law’s house and was very impressed by it, so searched on the net and came across quite a few.  Since then I have been thinking of making it.  What can be a better occasion than Valentines to make these Baked Apple Roses??

So are you ready for your special day???

Apple Roses

Ingredients:

  • 2 red delicious apples, thinly sliced (or your choice of apples)
  • 1 tbsp apricot preserve ( or cinnamon & sugar mixture)
  • 1 sheet puff pastry (store bought)
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon powder
  • 1 tbsp powdered sugar
  • juice of half lemon

Directions:

Pull the puff pastry out of the freezer and let it thaw for 45mins to an hour.  Cut the apple in half and core it.  Place the sliced half apple facing down and thinly slice the apples.  Place the apple slices in a bowl of water.  Juice the lemon in the water.  Microwave it for 3 mins so that the apples slices become soft and easily manageable.

Drain the apples and let it cool down a bit.  Once the puff pastry has thawed to be rolled out.  Using a little bit all purpose flour if needed roll out the dough to approx 1/8 of thickness.  Cut them in 6 strips.

Brush apricot preserve or sprinkle cinnamon & sugar on half of the strip through out.  Place the apples halves, on top of the brushed preserve side.  See the picture below for the visuals.

Now fold the other half of the dough on top of the apple slices. Start rolling the strip from one end to the other end.  Your apple rose is ready to be baked.  Place it on the cupcake pan.  Repeat the process and roll all of them.

Pre heat the oven at 375F and bake them for 40-45 mins.  Let it cool down a bit and sprinkle it with powdered sugar.  Serve warm.
