Ganesha Chaturthi is the Hindu festival celebrating the birth of Lord Ganesha. The festival is also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi, and is observed between the month of Aug- Sep as per the Hindu Calendar. This festival last 10 days, concluding with the grand immersion in a sea, river or water body and ceremony known as Ganesh Visarjan. In India, the festival is celebrated in central and western states of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and the southern states of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu. Different states have different offerings to Lord Ganesha based on the rituals they have been following.

On the last day, there is a whole procession where the idol is carried around with music and dance to the near by water bodies to be immersed. The immersion symbolizes Ganesha’s return to his celestial abode and the cycle of creation and dissolution.
