Quick Milk Pedha (Microwave)

So this morning I was rushing to see what I can make for our Diwali event as I had plans  for the day and probably couldn’t make anything until tomorrow.  But wanted to make something today itself.  Decided to make Quick Milk Pedha, which I remembered was posted by so many people on different food groups.

Recalled that I had come across a 15 minute pedha recipe on Veg Recipes of India’s site and checked on the ingredients, if I have everything.  It happen to be that I had everything except saffron.  Thank God I had asked my husband to bring milk powder yesterday out of the blue..Happy Diwali everyone..DSC_3220-1Ingredients:

  • 1 can of condensed milk (369g or 14 oz)
  • 1.5 cup milk powder
  • 1/4 tsp elaichi powder
  • 2 tbsps ghee or melted butter
  • few strands of saffron

Directions:

In a big microwave safe mixing bowl, pour condense milk, milk powder, and ghee.  Mix well  to make sure there are no lumps.

DSC_3212-1Microwave on high for 1 minute and take it out and stir.  Add saffron and elaichi powder and mix well. Put it back in the microwave for additional minute.  Take it out and stir again.  Make sure that the mixture is not runny.  Another 30 secs and stir again.  If your mixture is not runny more then it is done, if not additional 30 secs.  I did it for 3 minutes all together.

DSC_3214-1Let the mixture cool down a for it to be easy to handle.  Grease your palms with ghee and take a little bit mixture and roll in between your palms to make a smooth balls.  Repeat the process until you finish your mixture.  You will have grease your palms almost every time.

DSC_3216-1Press it with your thumb to make a thumbprint.  Garnish with your choice of nuts.  I garnished it with chopped almonds.

  1. Looks awesome Sarika…..May I check if I had to use mawa/khoya instead of milk powder, how much do I use? Also if use mawa/khoya need to use gas?

    • Thank you Cynthia…You can use same amount of khoya as milk powder. You can make it on the gas, it will take just an additional few minutes.
